Easter Festivities 2011

We've had a lovely Easter season here in Alaska. Because Easter is so late in April, most of our activities were snow-free!

We haven't had a snow-free Easter Picnic in more than a decade. So that was a great treat!

This year we held our 15th Not-So-Annual Easter Picnic, as usual, the week before Easter, on Palm Sunday. We did all our normal traditions including a Bunny Parade, Easter Egg Hunt, and Pinata. All the kids had a wonderful time. There were no tears... And for the most part there haven't been since the first Picnic when I made the mistake of having a rabbit-shaped pinata. The second the head got knocked off, the whole gaggle of preschoolers started to bawl. Learned my lesson. All pinatas since have been egg-shaped!

On Easter Sunday, Alicia awoke to find a single plastic egg on the table. Inside was a clue which she was just about able to read. It directed her to the location of another clue egg. A few easy-to-read clues later and she located her hidden Easter basket.

After church, she was able to find several eggs hidden around the yard. In years past, the big bunny has always had to hide the eggs in snowbanks and behind chunks of ice in the yard. Not this year! Fully exposed tree roots and stumps made great spots for egg concealment. Yay!
