Travel Report

Tess and I had a whirlwind tour of the east coast last week. We combined a training trip for me and a college road trip for her. We had lined up tours of Marietta College in Ohio and UNC-Chapel Hill.

7 days, 9 flights, 8 states and 1 district.

My 3-day class was in DC. We lucked out by escaping that area the evening before the next onslaught of snow struck the region, shutting down the capital and surrounding areas. While all flights from DC were cancelled, our flight out of RDU the next day took off without a hitch.

We stopped in Chicago on our way home for a 6.5 hour layover. We were met by our cousins who accompanied us downtown via the metro system where we had a great meal at the Cheesecake Factory and did a little shopping at Macy’s before retreating to the airport to catch our final flight back to Alaska.

We’ve been back home for a few days. And I’m gearing up to return to the airport tomorrow morning as I head out on the first of two village tax trips I’ll be doing this month. This weekend has me in Hooper Bay which is on the western coast of Alaska bordering the Bering Sea. I, along with 3 accounting students from UAA, will catch a 7am flight to Bethel, then transfer to a small plane for an hour flight out to Hooper Bay.

I’m in the process of packing some warm clothing as well as bedding and food to last me several days, in case the weather is not conducive to departing flights. I will return late on Sunday evening.
