Cakes and Easter

I've been super busy with cakes lately. Not to mention trying to work a "day job" as a GIS girl at an engineering firm. Oh right, and raising 2 daughters and 1 husband... ;o)

Regardless of the occasional cake-inspired tantrum, I really do glean the most enjoyment from cake decorating.

I have a few orders for wedding cakes in the months to come. But I ended up making my first official wedding cake this week. The couple is getting married tomorrow in Anchorage. They got in touch with me last Friday night (one week before their big day) to see about having me make a wedding cake.

Here's the cake I made for them. They're having a small family wedding. So they didn't need a gigantic cake. But to give the cake a little more bulk, I included spacer disks between the tiers and covered them with red ribbon. I made 200 little red flowers from gumpaste. The R and the rings are also made from gumpaste and painted with luster dust.

I'll be bringing the cake to the office tomorrow and delivering it to the reception site on my lunch hour.

There's also an Easter party at Alicia's preschool tomorrow. I've baked 42 cupcakes which Alicia and I will frost and decorate in the morning before we head into Anchorage. I told her she could put the little Peeps chicks on top of each cupcake. I also have some of those little malt ball eggs to put on each cupcake.
We had our Easter Picnic last weekend. It was a good time. Typically, we had lots of ice and snow on the ground. But that's just to be expected this time of year.

This Saturday the church is having its annual Easter egg hunt and visit from the Easter Bunny. And of course, Sunday is Easter! Alicia's getting really good at the whole egg hunting thing. It makes a mom proud....
