My Week in Cakes
So, I decided a while back that a "Two-Cake" week is my max to be comfortable.
This week I had SIX CAKES.
We started with the Pink Alaska themed cake for some birthday girls at the office.
Then we had Wedding Number 1 for which we made the Heart Branches cake. The bride had seen a cake similar to this in a magazine. Only the branches didn't form hearts... This one is better, I think!
Next came Wedding Number 2 with the Beach Wedding cake. The couple provided the topper, which I really like. The shells are made from fondant.
The remaining 3 cakes were all due on the same day: Today. So they were all being produced simultaneously the night before. I was up from 4am on Saturday till almost 4am this morning working on these cakes. I got 3 hours of sleep this morning, then woke up to add the finishing touches to these before they were due to be picked up or delivered.
The Toy Story bed was made for a little guy turning one in nearby Wasilla. His daddy's name is Andy and he'd deployed in Afghanistan. His mom wanted me to incorporate Dad into the cake. Luckily, his name fit well with the theme and isn't something like Floyd.
The Eagles German Chocolate cake was for a groom's cake in Wedding Number 3. The bride wanted her grandmother to make her traditional GC cake for the groom. But the grandmother had to travel to get to the wedding and it was just easier to hire me to make it. Luckily, Grandma and I both use the same recipe off the Baker's German Chocolate box!
And finally, the Zebra cake was brought to a baby shower in Anchorage for a friend from work.
It's been a LONG CAKE WEEK. Because, of course, I do the cakes at night and on weekends around my day job schedule. Once I catch up on my sleep, I'm sure I'll look back on the cakes with fondness.

Amazing cakes! How are you doing this. Sounds like you might need to hire some part-time help.

I have hired a Business Manager named Stephen. He mainly handles the books for tax purposes. I'd love to hire a DISHWASHER, but can't seem to find a lot of takers for that job... What do you say? You interested? The pay sucks, the conditions are cramped and soapy, and the hours are often long. Other than that, it's a pretty SWEET GIG!
